Design Philosophy

TreeHouse’s National Centre has been designed in complete sympathy with our location in the Muswell Hill conservation area. TreeHouse asked its architects to select natural materials where possible and utilise sustainable technologies. The Centre will be finished with red brick and timber cladding to complement local buildings and fit the natural character of the site. Innovative design features such as a sedum (plant) roof and underground ventilation will significantly reduce our footprint.

The architects are Penoyre and Prasad. Founded in 1988, they have won a number of awards for their high-quality designs in education, the arts and healthcare. TreeHouse has worked with Penoyre and Prasad on two previous projects – establishing TreeHouse’s temporary school at the Coram Family Campus in Camden and skilfully erecting the TreeHouse charity and school’s current (temporary) accommodation in Muswell Hill. Their aim has been to create a striking building with a calm architectural language, which allows TreeHouse to build on its record and grow as a National Centre of Excellence.
