22 October 2008, TreeHouse Annual Lecture - Are we ambitious enough about autism?

22 September 2008

Sponsored by TalkTalk, the event will take place at London’s City Hall, 22 October 2008 and aspires to bring together a diverse audience and engage in important and controversial issues affecting people with autism.

The lecture will be chaired by Jon Snow of Channel 4 News.

Our main speaker will be Bob Wright, co-founder of Autism Speaks, USA. His speech will then be followed by responses from:

  • Anya Ustaszewski who is autistic, a member of the London Autistic Rights Movement and is on the executive committee of ASSERT Brighton and Hove, an organisation which provides support and information to people on the autistic spectrum and their relatives, partners and carers.
  • Virginia Bovell OBE who has a teenage son with autism. She is a trustee of the National Autistic Society and co-founder of TreeHouse.

The film, Something About Us, made by Jes Benstock and Dr Dinah Murray from 2-minute videos that autistic people have produced, will play during the reception.

The invited audience will include people with autism, parents, academics, professionals, charities, philanthropists and opinion-formers.

After the event a film of the lecture will be available on the TreeHouse website.
