Introduction to the project
The TreeHouse Constructive Campaigning Parent Support Project was an exciting and innovative three year DCSF-funded project (2006-2009), working with ten parent groups across England to transform the provision of education for children and young people with autism. The project worked closely with the parent groups, each in a different local authority area to support:
- local action plans to deliver targeted constructive campaigns
- strong local networks and national networks
- parents’ involvement in local decision-making
- parents as active partners in the planning of educational provision for children and young people with autism
As well as supporting parents’ local campaigns, the project provided groups with a platform to inform national audiences of the most pressing issues for autism education. The Parent Support Project worked closely with the policy team at TreeHouse to include parents’ views and experiences to inform policy and parliamentary briefings, thereby reaching an influential national audience.
Find out more about the first six months of the project in Introduction to the Project and in depth information about some of the key issues raised by parent campaigners in Emerging issues, emerging solutions.
