Haringey

Julie singletonHello my name is Julie Singleton and I am the Parent Participation Officer for Haringey.

I am really looking forward to working with parents and carers in Haringey as I truly believe that parents are the experts of their children’s needs and want to enable parents to have a say in the services they need and how they are provided. I would like parents to share their ideas and tell us what support they need from us to participate and make a difference locally. This might include training courses, networking events, information days etc.

I will be working closely with key local groups and want to reach a wider group of parent carers because it is your views that will help take this work further.

For further information please do contact me on 0208 815 5156 or email jsingleton@treehouse.org.uk. My usual working days are Wednesdays and Thursdays.

About parent partnership in the London Borough of Haringey…

The Haringey Parent Carers’ forum has been meeting since September 2009. During the last year there have been consultation events so that key managers from services for disabled children can listen and hear about what parent carers want. This has resulted in setting up the new umbrella group that will bring together parents of disabled children from across this diverse and culturally mixed London borough. Find out more about what the Haringey Parent Carers' forum has been up to in their most recent newsletter (PDF 2.03MB).

The Haringey Parent Partnership Service, based at Markfield, a lively and well established community centre, is leading this work.

Markfield services for families of disabled children include:-

  • Telephone advice and support
  • Specialist advice surgeries
  • Inclusive social opportunities
  • Specialist support groups
  • Training for parent/carers
  • Training for professionals
  • Ongoing ‘higher level’ support for a limited numbers of families
  • A volunteer project
