Coping with Autism, My Story - A Talk by Tee Randal

Anne Myatt with speaker Tee Randal at the RAGS event

RAGS hosted a talk by Tee Randal at Ravensbourne school on the 29th October 07. The event provided a unique opportunity to hear the life story of Tee, a 30 year old woman who has hi-functioning autism. An open question and answer session followed the presentation.

The evening was a success, with Tee giving an insightful talk into her life history, and her experiences of living and coping with autism. The evening was well attended by a mixture of parents, carers and professionals, who all fed back positively on the event.

Signing Up for Parent Power - Transform Confrontation into Collaboration

In the July/August issue of the London Bulletin the TreeHouse Constructive Campaigning Parent Support Project featured in a double page spread entitled ‘Signing up for Parent Power’. The article argues persuasively that collaboration between parents and local authorities, can transform autism education. The article specifically focuses on the Havering RAGS Group, and how the involvement of the PSP has given the group a ‘real boost’ and a united focus. EDCM Local Authority Charter

Every Disabled Child Matters LogoEnglish Local Authorities can get involved in the Every Disabled Child Matters campaign by signing up to the EDCM Local Authority Charter. The Charter, produced with the support of Children Now magazine, encourages local authorities to commit to providing a range of services for disabled children and their families by January 2008, and also to addressing the needs of disabled children in their strategic planning and local area agreements.

63 English Local Authorities are currently signed up to the charter. These include six of the areas covered by the Parent Support Project - Ealing, Lambeth, Lincolnshire, Oldham, and Poole. We are delighted that these Local Authorities are committed to the charter, which highlights their positive attitude to children with disabilities. We encourage parents in the remaining four areas covered by the PSP project to contact their local authority to sign the charter, and push for its successful implementation within their area.

For information on how to contact your Councillor to support the EDCM campaign please visit the EDCM website.

Thank you for all your ongoing efforts, and good luck with your constructive campaigning!
