On the 10 September 2007, Theo Walcott’s partner Melanie Slade and friend Madeleine Bowden will embark on an amazing adventure to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for TreeHouse. Charities caring for street children in Africa and children with cancer in the UK will also benefit from the girls’ challenge.
We are so pleased that Mel is showing her support for Arsenal’s Charity of the Season as well as these other wonderful children’s causes and we wish the girls the very best of luck.

TreeHouse parents and children take in the Emirates
On Sunday 2 September 2007, five lucky pairs of children and parents from TreeHouse were invited to the Emirates to watch Arsenal play Portsmouth.
Outings like this can sometimes be very difficult for some pupils, as the crowds and noise can be very overwhelming. Individuals with autism can struggle with socialisation and for some pupils, even a family gathering or a group of other children can be very stressful and hard to cope with. Education can help a child or young person with autism to overcome these barriers and learn to take part in social occasions and even enjoy the company of others.
On Sunday, our pupils and their parents had a wonderful time. Anmol Johar and Dad Inder were thrilled to see Arsenal beat Portsmouth 3-1: “We were able to stay and watch the whole match. Anmol loved being at the Emirates. He really enjoyed the brilliant atmosphere, the noise of the fans and the bright lights and colours. Thank you so much for a great day.”
Arsenal visit TreeHouse!
The weather may have been against us, but yesterday was a tremendously exciting day at TreeHouse as Arsenal’s charity of the season. To cement the partnership, Arsenal held their weekly press conference at TreeHouse. This gave Arsène Wenger, Gael Clichy and Gilberto the opportunity to tour the school and meet children before sitting down with journalists.
At the press conference, Lord Tim Clement-Jones, Chair of Trustees, welcomed Arsène Wenger. Virginia Bovell, one of the founding parents, spoke about the impact of autism and the importance of getting the right education.
There was enormous excitement at the school: pupils and staff wore the Arsenal strip and were thrilled to meet and have their photos taken with Arsène and the two players.
Arsène and one of the pupils, put the finishing touches to a mural depicting the fundraising target. TreeHouse staff were delighted with Arsène’s commitment to the partnership and his conviction that reaching the £250,000 fundraising target would present no problems.
TreeHouse thanks Arsène and Arsenal football club for being chosen as their charity for the season and look forward to a rewarding partnership.

Pre-season photoshoot
Tuesday 7 August 2007
Four TreeHouse children were lucky enough to be chosen to attend the pre-season photoshoot at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 7 August 2007. Players and team Manager, Arsene Wenger, were on hand to sign autographs and kick a ball around before they got down to the serious business of having their photos taken. As well as posing for official team shots, players were happy to wear TreeHouse training bibs and have their pictures taken with TreeHouse pupils. To see the highlights from the day, please visit the Arsenal and TreeHouse Photo Gallery.
