TalkTalk is helping TreeHouse to transform the lives of children with autism

TalkTalk, the home phone and broadband company, has supported TreeHouse since 2005. The partnership has been going from strength to strength, thanks to the common values and approaches of our two organisations.

TreeHouse and TalkTalk are launching a new autism education website

We are thrilled to announce that TalkTalk has pledged to fund a new online service providing expert autism education guidance from TreeHouse and a forum where parents of children with autism will be able to meet online and share experiences. This invaluable service, which will be closely linked to TreeHouse’s website, will give vital information and tools to parents of children with autism who are navigating the complexities of the education system. The information will cover key stages including diagnosis, school admissions, the assessment and statementing processes, transitions and exclusion.

TalkTalk has pledged a corporate gift of £500,000 over three years. In addition, the company will be directing its existing fundraising activities, which include donating 1p from every call to the 118 111 directory enquiry service and employee fundraising, to the new website project. The Forever Story, TalkTalk’s unique online collaborative creative writing experiment, is raising public awareness of autism education. This amazing story already has almost 4,000 contributions from famous writers and budding authors alike.

Linda Redford, Director of Development and Public Affairs at TreeHouse said:

Autism now affects one in every 100 school aged children. It is universally agreed that early and intensive education offers the best hope for these children to develop essential skills in order to live an independent life. Despite this there is a dire national under provision of specialist education and parents are often, understandably, desperate for information and advice to ensure they secure the support their child needs. This project will provide a vital lifeline to parents who are desperate for reliable information and support from others in the same situation.

Dominic Stinton, TalkTalk Director of Marketing said:

Autism is a serious disorder, which dramatically impairs a child’s ability to communicate that often leaves parents feeling isolated from the outside world. By giving parents the information, advice and support they desperately need, they can secure the education, upon which their child’ss ongoing development is dependent. TalkTalk believes that everyone has a fundamental right to access means of communication and are proud to sponsor this vital project and to continue to support TreeHouse, an ambitious and innovative charity partner.
