Tim Barber’s Mount Kilimanjaro challenge

Tim Barber at Mount Kilimanjaro's peakAt 7.30am on the morning of Saturday 28 June 2008, Tim Barber reached Uhuru Peak, Mt Kilimanjaro and at the same time became TreeHouse’s first International Challenge event participant!

Following a visit to TreeHouse in February, Tim decided to take on the ultimate challenge and climb to the highest point on the continent of Africa – a staggering 5,895 meters above sea level (almost 20,000 ft!) The challenge took 7 days to complete, with each day consisting of between six and ten hours of trekking.

TreeHouse would like to congratulate Tim for taking on such a gruelling challenge on our behalf. All his training was not in vain, however, as Tim has raised more than £10,000 in the process, for which we are all incredibly grateful

Please read more about why Tim chose to climb for TreeHouse

Mark Girling at TreeHouse after his amazing cycling achievementMark Girling took part in the Vätternrundan - a cycle event in Sweden on 15 June 2007

Hi there! My name is Mark Girling and I raised money for TreeHouse through taking part in a charity bike ride in Sweden – the Vättern Rundan.

Lake Vättern is in central Sweden and once a year the small town of Motola hosts a recreational ride around the lake. It’s a “big deal” in Scandinavia attracting over 16,000 cyclists mostly from Sweden, although less than 100 Brits make the trip. To accommodate the 16,000 cyclists, it is a staggered start over 12hours – small groups of approx 50 riders being sent out in 3 minute intervals. The ride is not off road but takes the riders along the pleasant shore line through sleepy Swedish villages, although there are a few long hill climbs.

I am pleased to say I successfully completed the Vättern Rundan - No.18251 started at 7pm on Friday and finished at 6.15pm on Saturday. It is 186miles - the last 40miles involve a series of small hills/inclines. I spent most of Saturday from 10am into a strong headwind - leg sapping stuff. As well as raising money I also became a 5-year "veteran" with my special red badge having now done the ride 5 times - a special sliver medal is awared for this. There is a gold medal at 10 years!

Mark has passed his goal of £1,000 and so far has raised a fantastic £1,205. Many thanks and congratulations to Mark for this amazing acheivement!

The Bovis Lend Lease Tandem for TreeHouse team July 2007Bovis Lend Lease jump 10,000 feet for TreeHouse's 10th birthday on Saturday 9 June 2007!

To celebrate TreeHouse’s 10th Birthday this year, Bovis Lend Lease took to the skies for a very special sponsored event. On Saturday 9 June 2007, 14 Bovis daredevils jumped 10,000 ft for 10 years of TreeHouse. As a result of this wonderful challenge, the team raised a wonderful £10,966.10.

TreeHouse would like to thank all those who took part in the jump and all the friends, family and corporate partners that sponsored them, allowing us to raise this incredible amount.
