TreeHouse History
Our various locations
TreeHouse began life in 1997, based in a borrowed room in the Royal Free Hospital in North London. After outgrowing this space, TreeHouse moved to Swiss Cottage Library the following year, and then on to a town house in nearby Huson Close.
In 1999, thanks to the generosity of the children’s charity Coram, TreeHouse moved to a small, single storey temporary building in Mecklenburgh Square, near to Kings Cross. Growing further, TreeHouse moved into a larger modular building on the same site, and a number of office staff moved to donated office space near to Holborn.
In 2003, TreeHouse secured planning permission to build a permanent building on a four acre piece of land in Muswell Hill and completed the purchase the following year. In the meantime, the organisation had outgrown the larger Mecklenburgh Square site and erected a temporary building on the new site into which school and office staff moved in 2004.
In 2007, TreeHouse finally started the construction of the new national centre building. By this time, the organisation had grown once more and 30 office staff moved to a building in Archway Road for a year. The main building works have now been completed and the entire TreeHouse staff and school moved in in October 2008. The temporary building has been removed and TreeHouse is now undertaking extensive external works, including installing a playground, minibus turning circle/cycle track and football pitch, due to be complete in Spring 2009.
